A better way to connect with your spouse [and it’s free]
The Relationship Road Trip is a simple guide to better communication. My wife Megan and I have used it for the last 17 years to help us communicate about the important things that keep our relationship on track.
It can live on your phone or iPad, but I’m a big fan of printing it out, putting it in an envelope, and placing it in the glove box of our cars. That way, when the time is right you have everything you need to get your talk on.
Make a commitment that every six months you will set aside a day or an afternoon to take a road trip together and talk.
Don’t make it extravagant, you don’t need to drive to a different state or consume days of your time. A simple lunch date to the next town, a drive to the coast or the mountains, just a few hours together, no kids, just you and your spouse in the car driving and talking.
Make it a fun day, something you look forward to doing together. Your relationship will be the better for it.
Loved it! Great concept and effective way to start some healthy conversation. I’m always amazed that after being married for more than 20 years how much you can still learn about one another by doing exercises like this. ~Daidri Smythe
