Have you ever been tricked?
When I was younger, I went to a meeting and watched a friend of a friend show the Amway sales and marketing plan. Even though there were red flags everywhere, and I had more questions than answers, I decided to give it a go.
It took a while for me to accept that it was just a functioning illusion. The concept was flawed but because enough people are participating and wanting it to be true, it kind of works, primarily for the people who influence others the most.
My experience with religion has been somewhat similar.
Easter and Honesty
After writing and deleting several posts, I still can’t get my thoughts out. Deleting thousands of words that don’t express what I want to say has left me a little discouraged.
I’m just going share what’s been going through my mind and be honest about my thoughts and fears regarding Easter, Jesus, and God.
I believe there is a God. What that looks like however, I’m just not sure.
Is Jesus God?
I can’t say with certainty, and growing up as a quasi-Christian that scares me because this is the story I was taught as a child. Obviously there are other versions of this story and who God is, but this is the one I know.
I believe Jesus was a great teacher, and I haven’t ruled out his being God. I do know that when I live by the principles that Jesus lived and taught during his life, I am a better person for it.
Finding the truth is the ultimate goal, getting there seems to be the hard part. To be honest, I don’t want to look back and realize once again, I’ve been tricked.
Amway left me with boxes of soap and regret. So far, following Jesus has only left me with hope and love for others.
When I stop and think about it, maybe being tricked isn’t so bad, especially if it leaves me and those around me the better for it.
Understanding God and how that relationship plays out in my life is a work in progress. Life is full of wonder and beauty, and making sense of all this is one of the main reasons I started Journeyman.
I’m glad you are here, and I look forward to taking this journey together.
